3. Delight your listeners. Sell more music

As an artist, you love the idea of immersive audio but releasing your music in Dolby Atmos can be daunting.

You might be stuck thinking…

  • It costs too much - you need a big budget, specialised equipment and software.

  • The learning curve is too steep and distracts from your focus on writing and recording your music.

  • …Only audiophiles listen to Atmos.

  • You need expensive, specialist equipment to listen to Dolby Atmos.

  • You’re not sure it adds value for your listeners.

  • Isn’t it just for movie FX? My music doesn’t have helicopters or motorbikes in it!

We’ll guide you through the process of turning your stereo mix into an immersive, 3D Dolby Atmos mix.

Dolby Atmos is easier to use and more affordable than you might think.

It's not just for audiophiles or movie sound effects; it makes any music genre sound incredible and immersive on regular devices.

Plus, you can focus on your music while we handle the tech stuff.

What is Dolby Atmos?

The Experience

Imagine sitting front-row at the Village Vanguard, listening to Thelonious Monk or Sonny Rollins, or being in the studio with B.B. King as he plays Lucille. Picture standing beside an orchestra’s conductor as Gregory Porter sings just a few feet away.

A great Dolby Atmos mix immerses you in the music—you feel "inside" the performance rather than just “looking” at it.

Not Just a Fad

Unlike older multi-channel formats, which required expensive gear and dedicated rooms, Dolby Atmos needs only a pair of headphones and a recent smartphone, TV, or soundbar. Major platforms like Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music already promote Dolby Atmos, and Spotify is expected to join soon.

Rimshot Studio Atmos control room

Our Dolby Atmos Studio

Our Dolby-certified Atmos studio is purpose-built for exceptional acoustics, featuring a 7.1.4 immersive array with HEDD monitors. This setup includes 7 surround speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 4 overhead height speakers, all precisely time-aligned and EQ’d by Dolby UK.

Endorsed by Chord Electronics and HEDD Audio, we use top-tier headphone amps, DACs, and reference headphones. Our Atmos mixes translate perfectly outside the studio thanks to the Trinnov DMON room optimization system, recognized by Dolby as the Rolls-Royce of room acoustics optimization.

Connect with more listeners using Dolby Atmos

  • Reach new audiences and re-connect with existing fans with Dolby Atmos releases, thanks to strong promotion by Apple and Amazon Music.

  • Increase sync opportunities with Atmos mixes ready for Netflix, Amazon, and Apple TV.

  • Gain extra playlist and "New Releases" features on Apple Music and Amazon Music.

  • Take advantage of available funding from Apple and Amazon to support your Dolby Atmos releases.

How Do You Mix In Dolby Atmos?

Amazon music logo

The Dolby Atmos mixing process allows us to place and move sounds precisely in a three-dimensional space, providing clarity and depth.

We typically create an Atmos mix from mix Stems—stereo recordings from multiple individual tracks like drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, and vocals.

If Stems are unavailable (often the case with older catalogue material), we have developed methods to work with only a stereo mix (see below) while still creating an immersive Atmos experience.

For previously released songs we retain the character and drive of the original stereo mix while enhancing the listening experience by placing the listener in an immersive space with the artist.

Once the mix is approved, we master it to match the track lengths, fades, and gaps of the original stereo album or single, as required by Dolby and Apple.

How is an Atmos Mix Delivered and Published?

Tidal music logo

We deliver your mix as an ADM (Audio Definition Model) file, meeting all technical criteria required by Apple and Dolby.

The ADM file is automatically decoded on the listener's device, ensuring optimal playback on any device—cinema, studio, TV, soundbar, or smartphone. No setup needed, just seamless listening.

How can we help you with your Dolby Atmos releases?

  • A one-stop service, including working from your analogue master tapes, if needed.

  • We can bake, transfer and then pre-mix your original 2-inch tapes, providing you with a seamless and stress-free service from beginning to end.

  • For audio restoration of catalogue material, before mixing, we have state-of-the-art tools, including iZotope RX Advanced.

  • We use world-class vintage gear to re-create and enhance the sound of various music eras, including:

    - 1950s/60s Decca GENDEC all-valve console

    - Solid State Logic AWS900+ analogue console

    - 1950s EMT plate reverb, vintage valve EQs, and limiters

  • Live Room Re-Amping - Access to Rimshot’s renowned live room allows us to re-amp stems and recapture them with vintage mics, creating natural ambiences for catalogue albums. This technique, similar to Capitol Studios' work on Miles Davis’ "Kind of Blue" for Atmos, adds depth and authenticity to your mixes.
